Sacred Spaces: The Stage and The Studio

The performance stage and the studio are two integral spaces in the music process. The stage is representative of spontaneity and improvisation , where the performer and the audience become one. Conversely, the studio offers something different: solitude, quiet, and the safety of working out ideas without fear of ridicule. This is to say, both spaces are sacred, in their own respective ways.

Sacred Spaces: The Studio and The Stage is a collection of photos made in the tradition of Roy DeCarava, Ming Smith, and Kwame Brathwaite — photographers that were equally invested in the music as they were the art of image making.
